Why eMaester?
Prior to becoming an eMaester and joining IELTSNinja, I was working as an English Trainer in an institute. Though I enjoyed my job, I had to commute forty five minutes each way which was taking up a lot of my time. I yearned for a job opportunity that would allow me to do what I love without wasting precious time on my commute.
Life as an eMaester
Working as an English tutor with eMaester gives me the flexibility to choose my own schedule. Also I do not have to travel, which is such a big relief, especially during the hot summer months. I love that I am pursuing the career of my choice from the comfort of my house!
My family is also really happy because I spend the major chunk of my day at home. Though I am still a working mom, I don’t spend any time in travelling anymore and hence I get to spend more time with my daughter.
The Student Connect
Nowadays youngsters live most of their lives online – be it shopping or friendship, it’s all virtual. My students are very comfortable online, and though I never meet them in person, by the second or third day I already establish a very good rapport with them. I share some personal stories so that they can connect with me but at the same time maintain the student teacher protocol.
Whenever my students succeed in their IELTS exam, needless to say I feel very happy too. Getting the desired band in IELTS opens up so many doors for the student, and it is a professional achievement for me when my students get their desired results.
The Role of Technology
Technology does play a very important role. But you don’t need to be very tech-savvy to become an eMaester. Teaching the students through Skype, sharing important materials and resources online makes teaching very easy. Since the websites and the student-teacher portal are so streamlined and user-friendly, it is very convenient for the teacher to keep track of everything. Conducting the classes through Skype gives the feel of real classroom teaching.
What does it take to be a good eMaester?
Firstly in depth knowledge of the four modules of IELTS is essential coupled with an interactive method of teaching. Since classes are online, it is very important to keep the students engaged every moment. Moreover speaking in an animated manner and voice modulation is important because it is the voice through which I am connecting with my students.
What’s your favourite thing about being an eMaester?
The best thing is that I get to pursue my career as well as be committed to my family. And let’s not forget the paycheck which I get every month! 🙂
